Niacinamide, also called vitamin B3, is one of the most versatile and well-tolerated active ingredients in skincare. It strengthens the skin barrier by stimulating ceramide production, which helps skin hold moisture and resist irritation. It also helps even skin tone, reduces the appearance of pores, and calms redness – making it particularly useful for mature skin dealing with post-menopause dryness, uneven pigmentation, and increased sensitivity. Concentrations between 2 and 5 percent are generally well tolerated. Higher concentrations are not necessarily better and can occasionally cause flushing in sensitive skin.
